Rain is trickier to shoot in, but I know what to do
Shooting in the rain isn't the easiest conditions to work in, I won't pretend otherwise. But after years of doing this, I've learned where to look for the light, how to use what the day gives me, and how to turn what feels like a problem into something that works. Rain doesn't stop good photography , it just changes where you find it.
Rain creates images you simply can't plan for
Puddle reflections, raindrops caught in the air, the two of you laughing under an umbrella without a care in the world these are the photos that end up meaning the most. Rain adds a kind of texture and romance to photographs that nothing else quite does.
It has a way of bringing people closer
When the weather turns, something shifts. Guests pull together, couples hold on a little tighter, and the day feels more intimate for it. Some of the most tender, unguarded moments we've ever captured happened because rain made the world feel a little smaller.
A few practical tips if it does rain
Step outside with your photographer for even just a few minutes I promise you won't regret it. A simple umbrella makes more of a difference than you'd think, and it photographs beautifully. Clear acrylic or classic black and white are both stunning if you want something understated. But more than anything, lean into it. Every couple I've encouraged to do that has walked away glad they did.
The best wedding photos I've ever taken were never about perfect conditions. They were about real moments, genuine emotion, and two people fully present on one of the biggest days of their lives. Rain doesn't change any of that. If anything, More often than not, it creates a new experience
