4 reasons why You Shouldn't Skip Your Pre-Wedding Shoot

June 10, 2025 Pre-Wedding, Blog, Wedding

As a photographer, I've learned that the couples who book a pre-wedding shoot always show up more relaxed on their wedding day. ("It's not just for the 'aesthetic', I promise.")

Let’s be honest. When people hear “pre-wedding shoot,” the first reaction is usually:

“Do we really need that?”

Short answer? Yes.

Long answer? Also, yes, and here’s why.

1. You Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera

Unless you're a full-time influencer or a part-time model (in which case, carry on), you're probably not used to being followed around by a lens for hours. That’s where the pre-wedding shoot comes in.

You learn to loosen up, stop overthinking your angles, and just be. No stiff smiles or robotic poses, just you two, being yourselves. It’s essentially a practice run, but way more enjoyable and with better lighting.

2. It Builds Chemistry (With Me and With Each Other)

Here’s the thing by the time the big day rolls around, you don’t want to be awkwardly wondering where to put your hands or waiting for me to shout, “Okay, now look lovingly into each other’s souls!”

With a pre-wedding shoot, we’ve already built some trust. You know how I work, I see how you vibe, and it makes the wedding day feel more like a continuation than a stressful beginning.

3. You Get Gorgeous Photos That Aren’t in Wedding Outfits

Weddings are beautiful, but let’s be honest, you're in heavy clothes, sweating, and surrounded by aunties giving unsolicited advice. A pre-wedding shoot? Total opposite.

You pick the outfits. You choose the vibe. You can be barefoot on a beach, glam in the city, or cozy in a bookstore. These photos often end up being your favorites because they’re chill, personal, and full of real energy.

4. It Sets the Tone for the Wedding Day

When you've already done one shoot together, your wedding day won’t feel like a surprise performance. You’re more relaxed, more present, and more trusting of the process, and trust me, that always shows in the photos.

You’ll look less like “nervous couple trying not to blink” and more like “main characters in a romantic movie.”

Final Thoughts

A pre-wedding shoot isn’t some extra fluff to drain your budget. It’s part of the story — your story. It gives you a chance to connect, laugh, mess up a few poses, and come out of it feeling confident and excited for the big day.

So if you're on the fence about it, let this be your sign.

Do the shoot. Create the memories. And enjoy every awkward, sweet, and unexpected second of it.

You’ll thank yourself later. (And if you don’t, your photo album definitely will.)

P.S. If scheduling a shoot isn’t possible, that’s fine. We’ll make it work regardless.
