"First Look at a Wedding" What’s the Big Deal?
Let’s talk about the first look — one of my favourite parts of any wedding day.
Traditionally, couples weren’t supposed to see each other before the ceremony (blame old superstitions from arranged marriages — fun fact: it was partly to stop the groom from backing out ).
But these days? Many couples are choosing a first look as a private moment to see each other before the ceremony and honestly, it’s often the most emotional and meaningful part of the whole day.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this moment can be. It’s not just about getting cute photos (though we definitely will). It’s about carving out a quiet, intentional pause in the middle of a very big day.
Here’s why couples love it:
1. A calm, quiet moment before the madness begins
Your wedding day moves fast. The first look slows things down. You get to breathe, hold each other, and settle into the day together.

So many couples tell me that the anxiety melts the second they see each other. That shaky, restless energy finally has somewhere to go.

There’s no audience, no pressure. Just you and your person and the photographer, quietly capturing it from the side. Your reactions are real, raw, and completely yours.
